2020 - Covid lockdown
Personal work
Like many women, I stopped wearing bras during lockdown, simply because it felt more comfortable. And really, it wasn't harming anyone.
Before that, I didn’t think it was an option for people like me — those without Jane Birkin’s perfect little “sunflowers.” Going braless felt like it would be seen as too much, too loud, too vulgar.
But lockdown and social distancing stripped away a lot of those inherited norms. I realised, like many others, that much of what we think we can or can’t do with our bodies is shaped by social constructs.
Wearing what we want — or not — is a basic right.
At the same time, wearing a mask became a new kind of collective responsibility — an act of care for others, especially the most vulnerable.
So… free the tits, protect the city.
