Personal work

Deeply moved and outraged by the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others, I created a series of illustrations in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement — to stand against everyday racism, to celebrate love and togetherness, and to call on white people to reflect on the realities of white supremacy.

As a mixed-race woman — white and Arab/North African, from a Muslim background — I’ve witnessed and experienced racism throughout my life, especially growing up in France. The casual comments, the names, the quiet exclusions — all symptoms of a deeply rooted post-colonial mindset. While my experiences are not the same as what Black communities endure, I recognise the shared structures of oppression. It is my responsibility too to speak up, to stand alongside others, and to fight for justice, safety, love, and freedom.
